The Indian History of Shampooing!!!
From early 1500s people in India were known to use the pulp of a fruit called soapberries combined with some herbs and hibiscus flowers. That’s when the British colonial traders came to know about it and introduced the idea of shampooing your hair to Europe.
Sake Dean Mahomed is known for introducing shampoo (& Indian cuisine) to Europe.
In fact, even the word ‘shampoo’ itself is derived from the Indian word champo, which means to press or massage, which itself is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘chapayati’ which means ‘to soothe’.
The earliest effective shampoo was made by boiling Sapindus (i.e. soapberries) with dried Indian gooseberry (known as Amla in Hindi) and using the strained extract.
In the fast moving world, we forgot our history, our culture and our science but now times are changing, everyone is moving towards their original roots.
Ayurveda is the oldest and most advanced form of science we have had. There’s a touch of Ayurveda in every Indian household, both conciously and unconsciously.
